Using your AI headshots

Using an AI headshot on LinkedIn starts with a likeness check.

Compare the generated portrait with recent, unfiltered photos before uploading it. Check your face at full size, then test the small circular crop. A clean export helps with uploading; the image still needs to represent how you look now.

In brief

LinkedIn lists JPG or PNG, up to 8 MB, from 400 × 400 to 7680 × 4320 pixels. Use a portrait that reflects your current likeness and preview the circular crop. A suitable file does not guarantee that a particular AI image will be accepted.

Read LinkedIn's likeness requirement

LinkedIn Help says illustrations, caricatures and other artistic renderings of yourself can be used when they reflect your likeness. That condition does not establish that a particular AI result will be accepted.

Use a current real photo as your reference when assessing the generated image. If it changes your recognizable features, choose another result, request a correction or use a photograph that represents you accurately.

Check four things before choosing a portrait

Open the AI portrait beside a recent reference photo. Review the full image first, then inspect the details at a size where you can actually see them. A polished outfit or background should not settle the choice.

  • Check the expression as well as individual features.
  • View the whole image again after zooming in.
  • If uncertain, ask someone who knows you whether they recognize you today.

Preview the square and circular crop

Start with a square copy and keep your face centered, with room around the hair and some shoulders visible. Then preview the actual circle in LinkedIn's editor. Move or resize the image until the eyes and expression stay clear.

Use a simple background with enough contrast around your face. For ProfileIn portraits, you choose a background for each finished image. The best-looking full portrait may need a different crop for a small profile display.

Use a file that meets LinkedIn's requirements

LinkedIn's upload help lists JPG or PNG, a maximum file size of 8 MB, and profile-photo dimensions from 400 × 400 to 7680 × 4320 pixels. A photo does not need to be exactly 400 × 400.

ProfileIn emails a 1024 × 1024 square JPG and a full-size portrait JPG for each finished image. Keep the full portrait for other placements and use the square as a starting point for the profile crop. Check its actual file size before uploading.

Upload, preview and save

Open your LinkedIn profile and select the profile photo area. Add or change the photo, choose your file, then use the editor to adjust its crop and position. Check the preview before saving.

LinkedIn's Help page has separate desktop and mobile steps. After saving, look at the profile image at the small size people will see beside your activity. If the crop hides a feature, reopen the editor and adjust it.

Request a focused correction before publishing

Describe the specific feature that needs attention, such as a changed smile, distorted glasses or a crop too close to the hair. Compare the corrected portrait with your reference and repeat the full-size and profile-crop checks.

Profile Portrait costs $35 once for four AI portraits from eight selfies. Reply to your delivery email to request one correction covering up to two portraits within seven days of first delivery. Corrected portraits receive another human review for likeness, natural texture, facial details and crop.

Save both JPG sizes from the delivery email. Resizing a file does not repair an inaccurate face; describe the specific issue in a reply if a correction is needed.

AI headshots and LinkedIn profile photo questions

Can I use an AI headshot on LinkedIn?

LinkedIn Help permits artistic renderings of yourself when they reflect your likeness. Compare your AI result with your current appearance and read the platform's current guidance. This does not guarantee acceptance of a particular image.

What is the LinkedIn profile photo size?

LinkedIn Help lists JPG or PNG, up to 8 MB, with pixel dimensions from 400 × 400 to 7680 × 4320. Preview and adjust the crop before saving; 400 × 400 is the lower limit, not a required exact size.

Which ProfileIn file should I use?

Start with the 1024 × 1024 square JPG from your delivery email and check the circle in LinkedIn's editor. Keep the full-size JPG for other uses. Both versions arrive by ordinary email.

Will an AI headshot improve my LinkedIn results?

A recognizable photo can introduce you clearly, but this guide does not establish an increase in views, recruiter messages or interviews. Choose the image for accurate representation and a clear crop.
